A beautifully presented book, with the majority of the pages devoted to successful case prescriptions, this is a wonderful opportunity to get to know, or to revisit, these remedies in depth and to appreciate how closely connected they are to each other, often following one another on the journey to cure, culminating with a final prescription of Lac Humanum.
Beginning with a brief introduction in which the author sketches out the fundamentals of what it means for a remedy to be 'matridonal' (gifted by the mother) and the intimate relationship these remedies have with the phases of pregnancy, birth and breast-feeding, the next two chapters address the general themes of this group of mammal remedies, as well as looking in depth at each individual remedy as follows: Placenta humana, Chorda umbilicalis, Amnii liquor, Vernix caseosa, Oxytocinum, Lac maternum, Lac humanum, Follicilinum. Wittver explains how these are the remedies of this group currently the most well known, whereas potentised menstrual blood, progesterone and potentially sperm, also remedies of this group, are not yet fully understood in practice in order to be regularly prescribed. They are therefore not included in this text.
Thirty-three case histories are then presented, illustrating the scope and potential of these remedies for treating disease on all levels and the book concludes with a matridonal repertory.
With plenty of white space, delicate use of colour and very succinct text and client cases, this book is a joy to read, born of many years of successful prescribing and it deeply affirms the place of these remedies in homeopathic healing.
